During a surprise appearance at Duke University, comedian Jerry Seinfeld said that the movement for Palestinian liberation is just “to say that you don’t like Jews.”

He was on the university campus in North Carolina on Tuesday (9) when he made the statement, according to the student newspaper The Chronicle.

Jerry Seinfeld compared those who support the Palestinian cause to the white supremacist organization KKK.

“When you say ‘Free Palestine,’ you are not admitting what you really think,” the actor said.

“So actually, compared to the Ku Klux Klan, I really think the Klan is a little better here, because they can just say: ‘We don’t like black people, we don’t like Jews.’ Okay, that’s honest,” he continued.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, the university spokesperson commented on Jerry Seinfeld’s remarks.

“Universities are places where diverse perspectives on difficult and sensitive issues are explored in a safe and respectful environment,” she wrote, noting that the university does not anticipate or endorse guests’ statements.

Jerry Seinfeld’s representatives did not respond to the magazine.
